Emergency Location Identification Number

An Emergency Location Identification Number (ELIN) is a 10-digit Direct Inward Dialing (DID) number sourced from a local exchange carrier (LEC). Crucial to modern emergency response systems, an ELIN provides vital location information by pinpointing a caller’’s precise location during a 911 call, enhancing the efficacy of emergency services and improving their outcomes.

Instead of using the caller’’s regular phone number when they initiate an emergency call, the ELIN directs the call to the appropriate Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) call center, where agents look up the caller’’s location in their database using the ELIN.
