SpeechStorm team in Dunkerque to Roubaix 165km cycling challenge
This month a team of 8 riders made up of SpeechStorm staff, partners & customers took on the challenge of cycling 165km from Dunkerque to Roubaix in France, including sections of the famous pavé and cobbles of the Paris-Roubaix classic race.
The team were: Dave Worthington & Simon Gresswell (ProtoCall One), John Lush (eircom), Jonathan Hirst (Satsuma/Provident Financial), Paul Kelly (Bank of Ireland),Tom Wuyts (Genesys) and Damian Kelly and Robert McGarry (SpeechStorm).
Riding alongside current Team Sky star and Commonwealth Champion Geraint Thomas as well as Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and World Champion Stephen Roche, the SpeechStorm team acquitted themselves well, giving everything they had through the sun, rain and mud to the finish in the iconic Roubaix velodrome.
“That’s the hardest 2 kilometres I’ve ever done on a bike … can I do it again, please?!”
The spirit of the event was summed up by Paul Kelly’s comment on completing the tough 2.1km cobbled section of the Carrefour de l’Arbre: “That’s the hardest 2 kilometres I’ve ever done on a bike … can I do it again, please?!”
Together, the team raised over £3,000 for a variety of charities including Rode Kruis-Lier (Belgian Red Cross), Disabled Sports UK, Guide Dogs UK, Cystinosis Ireland and the Mike Moloney Bursary.
A very special thanks also to ProtoCall One and Satsuma who generously sponsored the team kit, and to Provident, Genesys and eircom for matching funds raised by Jonathan, Tom and John.
