Introducing the Genesys Cloud European Sovereign Region

The new sovereign region will be in Brandenburg, Germany, alongside five existing Genesys Cloud commercial regions in Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland, London, Zürich and Paris). This will give organisations freedom to choose the right level of sovereignty and control to meet their regulatory and risk requirements.

Adding to the protections of Genesys Cloud commercial regions, the European Sovereign region will help organisations meet heightened data residency and operational governance requirements.

Here are five core benefits it is designed to deliver:

Frequently asked questions

As data protection and compliance become more critical than ever, organisations are asking the right questions. This FAQ offers quick, clear answers about Sovereign Cloud

What is a sovereign cloud?

A sovereign cloud is infrastructure designed to meet specific data residency, operational autonomy, and regulatory requirements. It ensures that data stays within a defined jurisdiction, is managed by personnel subject to local laws, and operates independently from infrastructure in other regions. For European organisations, this typically means data remains in the EU, with operations controlled by EU residents under EU law.

How is a sovereign cloud different from a standard commercial cloud region?

Commercial cloud regions offer data residency and strong security controls, and meet the needs of most organisations. Sovereign cloud regions go further. They provide additional assurances around jurisdiction, operational independence, and platform governance. In a sovereign region, the entire stack – infrastructure, platform, and application services are governed, contracted, and delivered within the EU, under EU legal frameworks, supported by EU-based teams.

Who needs a sovereign cloud?

Sovereign cloud is designed for organisations in public sector and highly regulated industries where standard commercial regions may not meet specific legal or compliance requirements. If your organisation handles sensitive citizen or customer data and faces strict regulatory constraints on where that data can reside and who can access it, sovereign cloud provides the additional controls you need.

Does choosing a sovereign cloud mean compromising on capability?

No. Genesys Cloud European Sovereign region is built to deliver the full range of capabilities available in our commercial regions: AI-powered experience orchestration, automation, analytics, and omnichannel engagement. The goal is to ensure organisations can innovate without compromise while addressing their sovereignty requirements.

What makes Genesys Cloud European Sovereign region different?

Genesys Cloud European Sovereign region is built on the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, combining hyperscaler depth and capability with full-stack sovereignty. Unlike some local providers that meet sovereignty criteria but offer limited functionality, this approach delivers the innovation power of cloud within a sovereign framework. Genesys will be among the first CX vendors to launch on the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.

How does Genesys approach responsible AI in a sovereign context?

Genesys Cloud is designed with responsible AI principles built in. That means transparency in how models work, human oversight where it matters, and alignment with frameworks like the EU AI Act and ISO/IEC 42001. For regulated industries, this means AI-powered customer experiences that meet compliance requirements from day one, without additional governance burden on internal teams.

Is there a single definition for digital sovereignty?

No. There’s no universal definition: requirements vary by country, industry, and organisation. That’s why Genesys takes a consultative approach, working with each customer to understand their specific needs and identify the right deployment option, whether that’s a commercial region or sovereign region.
